Science Fun (6-11-2015)
In S.P.H.E we are learning about fire safety and we worked in pairs to discuss fire safety statements. We had to agree or disagree with the statements. We worked together on another worksheet to decide which order to put pictures in if a fire occurred at home. We work very well together in 5th and 6th class.
We learned that fire needs oxygen to burn. We did an experiment on Friday to demonstrate that if the oxygen is removed the fire extinguishes. The more oxygen the flame of the candle had the longer it survived. We also learned that this is the best way to quench an electric fire. Water should never be poured on any electrical device.
To carry out our experiment, we had 2 small candles which were both the sams size. We had a large jar and a small jar, matches blutac and a watch to time our experiment. We did the experiment as a class first and then we worked in pairs to light the matches and carry out the experiment.
We used blutac to secure the candles to two plates.
We lit the candles.
We put the jar over the candle and we timed how long it took for the candle to extinguish. It took 5 seconds in the small jar and 10 seconds in the large jar.
We loved loghting the matches!
The flame needs oxygen to burn.
Cousins working well together.
We used lots of matches!
I wonder will it work?
Look! It worked!
Selfie time!
